Mystery Reader is Back!
Today we had our first mystery reader in yonks come to visit us! Waahoo! Fiona came in and read us the book 'Stuck' by Oliver Jefferies. This was a funny book about a boy who gets his kite stuck in a tree and throws everything up to try and get it to come down.
Post a comment below sharing a time when you have been stuck...
We would LOVE another mystery reader next Friday (hint, hint, nudge, nudge)

Seb's Writing
We have been learning how to persuade in writing. We wrote letters to Fonterra telling them what we thought of their new 'Milk in Schools' - check out Seb's excellent letter. You can hear him read it out loud below. What makes this a great piece of writing?

Zoey and Luke share Maths
We LOVE our new tablets in Room 20! There are so many things we can do with them. The hexagons are using the tablets in their maths to record and explain their maths thinking. Here is Zoey's first go at using this app...

Kindness Boomerang
Last week was kindness week at Waipahihi School. The whole school spent the week celebrating our motto 'It's Kool to be Kind!". We watched an amazing video about passing kindness on and we were completely inspired to make our own version. First we brainstormed lots of random acts of kindness and then put them all together like a jigsaw puzzle to create a storyboard. The tricky part of filming was everyone remembering their part as the video never stops. We think we did a pretty good job. Keep being kind to one another as 'kindness keeps the world afloat'

How Stuff Works
Today we began our Inquiry - 'How Stuff Works'.
We spent the morning doing a science experiment.
WHAT YOU NEED:
First we had to put baking soda in the balloon through the funnel. Through the other funnel you put vinegar in the bottle and then put the balloon on the top of the bottle. Tip the baking soda into the vinegar. What happened was the gas blew up the balloon. The gas name was carbon dioxide. It bubbled up because of a reaction between the acid (vinegar) and the alkaline (baking soda).

And here you can listen to Zoey explain what we did...

Kiwiana Day
We had an amazing day yesterday celebrating the end of our Native to New Zealand inquiry. We spent the day redesigning 'The Kiwiburger'. We created our own burger boxes and then had a BBQ. We thought our burgers were delicious! And of course no party is complete without a dress up day!
