On the weekend this rare juvenile (teenage!) falcon flew into a window at Ollie's house. Unfortunately it died. Ollie emailed 'Wingspan' to let them know what he had found and to tell them the falcon had died. Wingspan is a company in Rotorua who help birds of prey.
What facts do you know or can you find out about this type of bird? Leave your ideas as comments on our blog so we can share them with the rest of the class.

P.S Very very impressive! (the falcon)
Hello there!
I was sad to here of the dead falcon. I wonder how its mother felt!
Did you know the falcons are the fastest flying birds, reaching speeds of 230 KPH! They also have 8 times better eyesight than us, as well as being able to take prey(they are birds of prey)6 times their own body weight!
I hope Marc likes being in with you, Miss Ryan.

ReplyDeleteHello Ollie and room 20,
ReplyDeleteHe definitely looks like an owl.
Did you know that falcons numbers are low because they nest on the ground and predators such as weasals, stoates, cats and dogs steal their eggs?

Its great to be back at school. Shame about the falcon Ollie, your window must be hard. Does anybody know how many falcons are left? Chloe
ReplyDeleteHe is a really beautiful bird and I have never seen anything like him before, I think he looks like an owl too. Chloe
ReplyDeleteFalcons have tapered wings that allow the falcon to change direction extremely quickly especially when compared to other birds. Falcons have been recorded diving at speeds of up to 200mph, meaning they are the fastest creatures on the planet!
ReplyDeleteWow cool falcon
ReplyDeleteWow! Well done those people who have left a comment or a fact. You get the chocolate fish!
