Grandma McGarvey:

Grandma McGarvey is a funny old lady. She has tiny watchful eyes, hiding under her little round glasses. They are like speedy eagles watching over thier nest. Her nose is like a kiwi's beak poking around in the undergrowth, stuck on her face. She has a wobbly double chin it looks like that adds to her kind features. Her clothes are misplaced and wrong for a women of her old age! Her head is squashed on her body so it looks like she's got no neck! Her hair is wiry and messy from all the adventures she's been on. It looks like a bird's nest from one hundred years ago! Grandma McGarvey is a funny old lady.

This term our Inquiry focus will be based around the Olympics. The class have been given a fictional scenario in which they are to become experts and we will be ‘travelling’ to London to fulfil this task.

The Olympic Committee has asked you to be the Selector and Coach of a group of athletes who are going to be taken to the 2016 Olympics. It will be your job to prepare them for the Olympics and ensure they are in tip top condition leading up to the games.
We will need to:
Find out how the Olympics are run and timetable of the events
What sports are included in the Olympics?
What are the rules of the sports?
Get to know the athletes that are there this year and find out their results
Learn how to coach someone/What does a good coach do?
Find out what makes someone good at what they do/successful
What do you need to be healthy?
How do you get fit?

Reading

Today we read an e-book called Olympic Dreams by Claire Llewellyn. It helped us to find out more facts about the Olympic Games. Click on the book to read it again.  Leave a comment with 1 fact that you learnt while reading this book

Introducing Caity Stevens....

Wow! Today we were lucky enough to have Caity share her special talent, which is KARATE with us. She was so well organised as she had prepared a slideshow with information about karate and even a video for us to watch showing what happens in a karate lesson. She showed us a karate routine and then taught us all a few moves. We were so impressed! Well done Caity, you did such a wonderful job speaking to us today. We loved sharing your special gift.

Special Talents

Room 20 is full of individuals with unique talents. After watching an amazing video on a girl who taught her dog to dance we decided that we wanted to celebrate the talents we have within our class.  Every Friday we will have some-one from our class share their special talent.  You could sing, dance, do gymansatics or karate, show us a piece of artwork, play an instrument or demonstrate an experiment.  The list goes on and on!

To begin with tell us what activities you are involved with both in school and out of school.
Please write your first name and then list the activities. For example:
Jessie - In school:  kapa haka, keyboard
Out school:  Girl Guides and netball.

Keep watching this space as we will show you just how are amazing we are...but for now watch this!

Banana Smoothie Cooking Show

Last week Room 20 used all the leftover bananas from the ironman to make delicious banana smoothies.  Kees, Zac, Henry and Marc created a cooking show to explain what we did.  These four boys had to create a storyboard and script, plan the props and practice all of  which they did completely independently.  It is their first movie for the year so they have included in the comments what they would do next time to improve their work.  But for a first go, I think they have done extremely well.  You might need to listen carefully as the sound isn't too good!

Personal Writing

Today we have been learning about adjectives and how we can use them to colour our writing.  We talked about food that we HATE and tried hard to make sure that people understood how much we really don't like it.  Watch some of the videos below to see Stephanie, Trent and Luke read their writing.  Tomorrow we will add some more...

Stephanie Hates Beans

Trent Loves Food!

Luke Hates Avocado
